FAQs

IS IT SAFE TO GET A TATTOO?
For most people, tattoos are safe as long as each artist and the entire studio strictly adheres to universal precautions and blood borne pathogen safety. You can be assured that St. Pete Tattoo Company requires each artist to hold client safety as the first and foremost priority. We have the highest level of sterilization possible and go above and beyond all local health codes and laws. We do have a consent/waiver form which identifies certain instances when it would not be appropriate for an individual to receive a tattoo, but these are rare instances.
DOES IT HURT?
Yes it hurts, but there are lots of people walking around with tattoos so it’s not unbearable. There are many sensations used to describe it depending on each person and what area is being worked on. Some people even like it!
CAN I BRING MY OWN PICTURE OR DRAWING FOR MY TATTOO?
Yes! This tattoo will be on you permanently, so we want to be sure you are completely happy with the result. Bring anything you think might help to capture exactly what you’re looking for your tattoo to reflect. We also have plenty of reference books available for ideas. Whether you know exactly what you want or don’t have a clue, we will always work with you to design a custom piece of art that you will love.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
That depends on the size of the piece and the detail involved. Some pieces cannot be completed in one sitting. You will be given a quote once you meet with the artist and go over the details of what you want. Remember though, if another studio is willing to do your tattoo super cheap, BEWARE! Sometimes you get what you pay for and this is going to be on you forever. If you do go for the super cheap shop, see the question below on fixing a bad tattoo!
WHAT IS YOUR DEPOSIT POLICY?
It is our policy to collect a deposit when booking an appointment. We accept deposits via cash or credit card and the amount of the deposit required is decided upon by the individual artist. The deposit you leave will come off of the final price of your tattoo. Artists carefully schedule and book their appointments based on blocks of time. If you do not show for your appointment, they often do not have adequate time to fill your vacancy and it hurts them. Deposits serve as a good faith gesture to hold your appointment and to compensate the artist if you fail to show for your appointment time. Deposits are NEVER refundable. If less than 24 hour notice is given for a cancellation, you lose your deposit and must leave another deposit if you wish to reschedule. If you cancel your appointment with more than 24 hours notice, you may apply your deposit towards your rescheduled appointment. We NEVER, under any circumstances, will refund a deposit. We are sorry if this policy causes any inconvenience, but is necessary to protect the interest of our artists.
ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS?
You must be 18 years or older to get a tattoo due to the Florida Health Department rules and regulations. The parent or guardian of the individual must show valid ID and fill out a waiver. At our locations, the legal age to tattoo with parent or guardian permission is 16. We enforce this policy strictly and require proper verification of parent or guardianship prior to rendering any services. Please contact us prior to booking an appointment to find out exactly what documents will be required for this verification process. For any tattoo, you must present a valid driver’s license or current state photo ID which must be photocopied by law. You (and your parent/guardian, if you’re a minor) must also read and sign a waiver/consent form.
I HAVE A REALLY BAD TATTOO, CAN YOU FIX IT?
Most of the time, our artists are able to design a beautiful cover up, even for really bad tattoos, so you would never even know they were there. We are always honest with our clients. If we don’t think it can be successfully covered, we will let you know and work with you on what options you have. Our artists take tremendous pride in their work and art, and will not tattoo someone that would be detrimental to their overall performance/portfolio. The artwork that our artists design on your body and how you feel about the final result is a direct reflection on them – meaning your satisfaction is VERY important!
HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN GET A TAN, AND WHAT KIND OF AFTERCARE SHOULD I DO?
Aftercare guidelines for tattoos are given to every client. For further guidelines, please check out the aftercare section!

Tattoo Aftercare

LEAVE THE BANDAGE ON FOR AT LEAST 2 HOURS
We get it. You’re excited to see your new tattoo in all its glory… but be patient so that you can ensure the best possible results! Giving your new ink at least 2 hours before removing the bandage will ensure that any excess fluid and ink are absorbed.
WASH WITH GENTLE ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP AND WARM WATER
It is important to use a gentle non-scented antibacterial wash to clean your new tattoo. This will ensure that the area remains clean while it begins to heal! After washing, gently pat the area with a clean, dry paper towel to remove excess moisture. Repeat this step 2 – 3 times daily while your tattoo heals.
APPLY A THIN LAYER OF AQUAPHOR OR PETROLEUM DRESSING
Reapply 2 – 3 times daily while your tattoo heals. You will notice some redness at first and possibly some scabbing as your ink begins to heal. This is normal. It is important that you do not pick at the scabbing and keep it moisturized with Aquaphor during this healing process.
FOR LARGER TATTOOS
Wrap your tattoo area with plastic wrap (saran wrap) for the first 3 nights before going to sleep. Wash well with anti-bacterial unscented liquid soap. Make sure you dry the entire area with a clean paper towel by patting (DO NOT RUB), apply a generous amount of Aquaphor and then rewrap the tattoo. Remove wrap in morning and wash well.

The 4th day, after washing, switch to a mild lotion. (Aveeno, Lubriderm). For the next 4 to 5 days, gently wash, then apply lotion.

No suntanning, swimming, hot tubs, picking, scratching or tight clothes on your new tattoo. After 2 weeks, be sure to apply sun block if exposed to the sun.

Don’t Forget!

While your tattoo heals, you should:

  • wear sun-protective clothing whenever you go outside
  • call your tattoo artist or doctor if you have any signs of infection or other problems

You shouldn’t:

  • cover your tattoo with sunblock until it’s fully healed
  • scratch or pick at the tattoo (this will cause scarring)
  • wear tight clothing over the tattoo
  • go swimming or immerse your body in water (showers are fine)
